Mrs. Maryanne Jordan, Artist Grant Fund Chair presenting Ms. Kasey Shao the Artist Grant Fund Award

The Society is pleased to award Ms. Kasey Shao the Cincinnati MacDowell Society Artist Grant for the year 2021. Ms. Shao is a graduate of Walnut Hills High School Class of 2021. She began playing the piano at four years of age. Her talent as a young pianist was recognized when she began winning student competitions. She made her debut with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra at the age of twelve and where she also receiving the honor of Young Steinway Artist. Included among Ms. Shao’s many awards are in April 2018, First Place, Steinway and Sons Piano Competition, including the Best Chopin prize presented by the Music Teachers National Association. In June 2019, she was Quarter Finalist, Cliburn Junior in the International Piano Competition and in January 2020, the Gold medal winner and National Finalist in the National Young Arts and March 2020, winner, Cincinnati Overture Awards. Ms. Shao has recently been recognized as a United States Scholar in art and she is one of only twenty young people to receive such an honor. Ms. Shao will be attending Princeton University in the fall of 2021. She plans to major in composition and will continue piano studies there.

Queen City Club Annual Dinner

The Debby and Jim Mason Mobility System.

Cincinnati Ballet's Debby and Jim Mason Mobility system, shown in the photo below, is the only such system to be found in a dance company's studio space. The tracks near the ceiling allow people with mobility issues to be suspended so as to experience the sensation of dancing. A representative from partner organization Cincinnati Children's Hospital is present whenever children use the system. Victoria Morgan, in her 25th season as Artistic Director of Cincinnati Ballet, shared that the emphasis in designing the new studios was on natural light and openness. In addition to donating the Lorrence T. and Barbara W. Kellar Studio, Larry Kellar chaired the $31,000,000 capital campaign for the new facility.
